Any reason for 4-wheel drive tow truck for 5'er

We are looking into buying a 5th wheel RV and appropriate tow P/U. Will buy at least 3/4-ton, but probably a 1-ton P/U with automatic trans. Since we plan to do little or no "primative" camping, why should we consider a 4-WD, with more mechanical parts to wear out?? Our plan is to be full-timers within 2 years.

Hi tkdesigner, welcome to the forum & rving, there is no reason to have a 4X4 for a tow vehicle, if thats its main use. We have a 121000 miles on our 2wd dually and have never had a problem going where we want to. As you noted there less mechs, and less wt. with the 2wd units. Good luck with the search :) With your plans of fulltiming a dually maybe the better choice.

Hello tkdesigner! If you are doing "little or no primitve" camping four wheel would just be more things to go wrong. I do mostly primitive camping and use low range four wheel to park the 5r, this is only twice per trip so 99% of the time even I don't need it. As Gary B. said 2wd ought to do it.Imho and fwiw
