Not sure

The economy has hit hard. I have refused to take my Rv to the local shops since theywhere not nice. They saw me coming and could see I wasnew at RVing. They would add charges, and make up repairs that where not necessary.I have begun to learn rv repairs with the help of this forum. I have been doing my own repairs but there are things that need to be left alone tothe pros. I found a mechanic that has been working for an Rv dealer for a little over 20 years. His hours have been cut to part time.I have been taking my Rv to him rather then the RV shop. This may bewrong but he needs the money. I may be contribuiting to the demise of Rv shops who are hurting as well.I guess I am confessing.Iwant to spend money to stimulate the economy at this shops, but I do not want to be taken. Not sure whyI am writing this but this is how I feel today.

Re: Not sure

confession is good for the soul,

looking around to save money is good for the pocketbook,

spending money anywhere is good for the economy,

finding a good mechanic is great for your RV,

helping someone who needs money is a blessing,

Re: Not sure

Well, that's good for the soul IF you've done something wrong, but I don't think so.

Anyway, you can't stimulate a down economy by spending when you don't need to spend. If you think about it, you are part of the down economy. You've cut spending for other reasons. You can't go against those reasons just to give money to someone else in hopes they will save the economy by accepting it. That just doesn't make sense.

That farce was created to make it easier for them to send OUR money to THEIR buddies. And they've been very successful at doing it.

Re: Not sure

well here is one for u Domingo. we are in Deadwood SD. as we got here we found a hole in the gas tank of our toad (Honda Accord) . we took in to the local Honda dealer for repairs. We thought we would get a better deal by a dealer,,,,WRONG,,,, . I went on line and found a tank for just over $200.00, the dealer wants $700 plus labor. And since they have it we are between a rock and a hard stop. Yes we will have to pay , talking about a rip off for tourist. Now isn't the first time we have been ripped off by a dealer. Six months ago we had the transmission replaced. The dealer told Maria he was putting in BRAND NEW TRANSMISSION, but what she got was a rebuilt one. Now it had a leak and leaking fluid out, . The dealer here in deaqdwood is going to fix it as well hopefully under warranty.. SO WE ARE STIMULATING THE ECONOMY

Re: Not sure

FYI Hollis. Dealers are going to always use OEM parts and dealer labor rates are almost always higher than independent shops. An independent shop isn't opposed to using aftermarket parts. Its the difference in going to a dealer for an alternator (OEM) and going to NAPA for an aftermarket. I hope your paperwork indicates "new" not "rebuilt" or just "replace transmission". Good luck and I hope your trip is going great otherwise.

BTW, how did you get a hole in your gas tank?

We'll be following your trail blazing, leaving next Wednesday and will be in The Badlands the following Monday.

Re: Not sure

Jim FYI this is an OEM part and not an replacement part. I went on Honda gas tank and found it here. Now as for as the hole we don't know how it happen. we pulled into Wal Mart to get some supplies of food and the firefighters was there raising money for Jerry Louis MS telethon and they notice it. We really don't know how it happen, other than coming on the road while it is under construction, that where it may have happen.

Re: Not sure

Hollis just take a bar of oxegon sope and rub in in the hole. What about JB weld? Hate to hear you are having problems. Maybe you will hit the jackpot in Deadwood. Don't miss Calamity Jane and Wild Bills graves while there.

Re: Not sure

the dealer will not patch, besides Maria does not want it patched, so that out of the question. as for as winning in the casinos, well down a $100 there so that not working out. I did get new house batteries today and that make life better not having to start the genset to get the slides in or out. BTW Nash we went to the cemetery where Wild Bill and Calamity Jane is (Staying). We have been to Mount Rushmore and Crazy Horse and around the Black Hills and are wanting to go to Devil Tower today but looks like the weather is playing havoc with out plans.. I f we get Maria car back we are moving to another camp ground and we may head down to the diamond mine in AR. for a day or so.

Re: Not sure

Hollis if you go to the diamond mines take a stoll to sit on and old clothes. Best time to go is after a rain. All this inf coming from a person that didn't find a thing but mud and a tired back  worth the trip. Just don't tell the people at the office that they didn't plant enough diamonds when you leave. They didn't appriciate me saying that   Be sure and take in the devils tower even if you have to wait on the weather.
