95 Itasca Suncruiser. Second Owner. Well cared for. Only 1 issue. When plugged in to shore power, the stove hood & light, water heater & water pump do not work. They DO work when batteries are charged. Also, plugging in the rig does NOT charge the Marine batteries. They continually drain when plugged in. HELP!

Just found post with info that starting rig while plugged in MAY damage inverter. Its a Magnetek 6345. I know we have done this. Could this damage only a PART of it which would effect only the above items? :(

    How fix?

sounds like trouble with the convertor. Might be simple. The older models had a switch that with age would stick. Usually it was the other way. When you unpluged it it would not switch back. However, it could still cause it. Try banging on the cover of the Magnetek and see if it kicks in. If so there is a replacement for the old switch. Contact Magnetek and they can set you up. Pretty easy to replace also. If not they may still be able to help. Good luck

I would agree that it is probably the converter. Before you replace it, make sure that it is getting power. There should be a 120V-ac outlet that it is plugged into with a plug like any other appliance. Make sure that it has power and then check the voltage out, with the battry cable lifted to see what it is putting out, if anything. Most likely it will be 0V. All of the items that you mention are 12V-dc so that is probably what has failed. But you do need a volt meter to know for sure.

And starting the chassis engine while plugged to shore power will not harm the converter in any way. We do so frequently.

If your lights are working when plugged in and the battery is dead then the micro switch in the converter is bad. Unfortunately the switch in No Longer Available. Sucks but true. However the good news is that the make a replacement charging section model # 7345RU which will replace the lower charging section of the 6300 series for around $225.50 . Sound like a lot but you are getting a step mode converter with a builtin charge wizard. So it is equivilant to the PD9200 series that every one likes these days.
