Slide out topper (Awning)

I am going to install a slide out topper (awning) on our trailer.
The rail that mounts to the wall above the slide out gets mounted with #6 x 1/2" screws.
From what I can tell there is nothing behind the siding and the screws only go into the siding. maybe I will hit the odd stub.
Is that really enough to hold this onto the trailer?
Any help would be appreciated

Welcome to the forum Ervin. I would think there would be a solid aluminum or wood all across the top where you will mount the rail. Ken or Rod will probably answer and either of them will know.

NO, studs are not enough. You have to find the header across the top of the slide.
