speedometer transmission gear

Hello I Have a Dodge allison 73 motor home speedometer does not work i checked all cables down to transmission with drill and dash gage worked.The problem I believe is in the teflon speedometer transmission gear? But the gear looks ok should I be able to feel the metal internal transmission gear to line up with my teflon speedometer gear ??? or don't the two gears mesh until transmission is put in gear??? Then line up and mesh together to ingage speedometer ????

Hi Michael, I don't know the ansewer, but try to move your ??? to Allison Man. It's close to the front of General RVing, he sure seems to help a lot of folks. Good Luck, Terry
