What size hitch???

I just bought a 2004 Coachmen Chaparral, the tongue weight is 830 lbs. and the GVWR is 10,830 lbs. Should I stay as close to the tongue weight as possible or go with a heavier hitch? I am in between a 1,000 lb. tongue weight & 10,000 lb. overall or a 1,200 lb. tongue weight & 12,000 overall. I don't want to buy a hitch that is too small for the load, but I don't want to buy one that is overpowering for that load.

I have seen all different weight ratings on these hitches, any thoughts???

With your truck, 800lb. bars are big enough. If you had said a 1/2 ton truck, I would have told you to go heavier.

If you go with the heaver bars, they will give you a harder ride because they don't flex as much. With the 800's they will flex more, and you will get a softer ride. Cost is not an issue, they are probably the same..or close.

I would say, take your pick, based on the ride you like.
