I'm a little confused. Some fellow campers say "always tow in third gear" and others "tow in overdrive and cruisecontrol providing it's not over worked by way of weather or hills" How about a little more advise.
Hi DJ and welcome to the RVUSA forum. It all depends on what you're driving and what you're towing. I usually go in Drive, which is overdrive, and cruise control. Sometimes there is a lag when cresting a hill that the transmission won't shift back into overdrive as fast as I want it to, so I'll tap the brake to get it out of cruise, let it shift up, then hit the resume buttton to go back to cruise control. I feel the engine and computer can do a better job maintaining speed and getting the best gas mileage. JMO.
Thank-you Jim
It's an old toy of mine I would hate to tear up. 1994 GMC custom yukon, 350/350 turbo 95,000 miles. I'm towing a Nomad 151 roughly 3,300 full wieght, 15 foot long. I kept it short for that very same reason. Funny how one get's atached to those four wheels.
