I am about to buy a 1992 motorhome with an Allison AT-542 in it. Are these a good transmission or should I be concerned? What kind of things should i look for when checking it out, what kind of PM maintenance/ adjustments should be done before I head out on the road with it? Thank you for any replies.

The biggest problem with the AT-542 is there is not a lock up clutch in the torque convertor. So you will get a little less mileage. Other than that it should last many miles for you.
