Big Bend National Park

We are traveling to Big Bend State and National parks the last week of Oct 2024. We have a reservation at the Roadrunner RV Park for a week. We want to take two days from PHX to get there and back so looking suggestions on where to stay around El Paso, as that is about halfway. Also looking for advice on what to see and do. We will have our two dogs with us, so that is a consideration. Neither of us are into hiking a lot, short enjoyable walks are good. Mostly going for the dark sky aspect as my wife and I really enjoy watching the night sky. This is not something we can do much here in Phoenix Hopefully there will be swimming places for the dogs, maybe a day trip to the Gulf of Mexico if it is not too far

Thank you in advance for any and all suggestions

October can still be pretty warm in the Sonoran Desert. Take your dogs with you. Take some short walks to get the feel of the desert. A very interesting place, but I like it best in winter.

Managing Aadhaar doesn’t have to be complicated. My Aadhaar Card Status by India UIDAI lets users easily update details, download their Aadhaar, and manage services online in one trusted place. It simplifies access to essential identity services without unnecessary delays or visits.

That sounds like an amazing trip, especially for dark sky photography and stargazing. Around El Paso, you might want to check out Mission RV Park or El Paso West RV Park since both are RV-friendly and good stopping points for travelers with dogs. Great Escapes RV Park El Paso is another solid option if you want a quieter overnight stay before heading toward Big Bend.

For Big Bend itself, the scenic drives are honestly just as impressive as the hikes, especially Ross Maxwell Scenic Drive and the Chisos Basin area. Since you’re mainly going for the night skies, October should be fantastic with cooler temperatures and clearer viewing conditions. Reddit travelers also recommend timing your visit near a new moon for the best Milky Way visibility.

One thing to keep in mind is that Big Bend National Park has fairly strict dog rules, and pets are generally limited to roads, campgrounds and certain areas rather than hiking trails. The state park is a bit more flexible, but still limited.

A Gulf of Mexico day trip would probably be too far from Big Bend for a comfortable drive, but Balmorhea State Park could be a great alternative for a relaxing swim stop on the way. Also, before starting long travel days, many travelers like checking quick convenience updates online, similar to how people search for dunkin donuts holiday hours before holiday road trips and coffee stops.
