Hi dred, welcome to the forum. Next time you are on this site, look to your left in the tabbed column that says RV's. The first subject is Search for RV's for Sale.

Dred, How are you planning on purchasing this from a private sale? What will you require the seller to do? Just curious  Don't take this wrong but, there has been a lot of scams in this kind of dealing. Welcome to the forum

I hope this guy is straight up, but I get hit several times a week about buying trailers with a "bank cheque". Most of them want me to take a "cheque" larger than the sale price for "shipping". I would have to deposit the larger check in my account, write a check for the shipping difference. Before my bank figures out the "cheque" is fake, my trailer would be gone and the check for shipping is gone also.

They usually want cargo trailers, but a nearby dealer of horse trailers fell for the above a few months ago.

You want to import an RV from Florida? Why Florida? Don't you realize that an RV will cost more in Florida than lot's of other places in the USA? Then there's the shipping costs.

Personally, I think buying an RV in the US for use in the UK is like buying an airplane from a shipyard. Knowing what little I do know about the differences between the UK and US, I would buy from a local dealer. For use in the UK, it would be better to get one made there.

Then there's the issue of spare and replacement parts. You'd have to wait for the boat to arrive from the US before you could get your part.

But if you've got the money, I'm sure someone here will relieve you of it....
Good luck on your search...

C Nash- didn't realise there were loads of scams goin on the the moment. I wouldn't require the seller to do anything. A guy would pick the van up for me from the seller.
Grandview trailer sales- I am straight up 100% I will organise the shipping and transportation and pay them myself. Whoever i buy the vehicle from will just recieve the money for the vehicle.
Texas camper- I want to import from florida because a: The company that organises shipping to uk said its cheaper than from importing from the west coast. b: i have a friend in florida thats goin to check the vehicle for me. How come a van from florida is dearer than other parts of the us? Dude , I have a chevy astro at the moment converted to a camper and its the best camper i've ever had.The only reason i am sellin it is because it is a 2 berth (i have a baby on the way) so need a bigger van. English camper vans are like tin cans compared to U.S vans. Ive had 2 english campers and after a long drive your bones hurt! I've taken the chev on many long journeys( last year i drove to portugal in 3 days 1300 miles) and felt fine So what i'm sayin is american vans have a lot better comfort than english ones. Spare parts ain't been a problem i can get bits for the astro in 24 hrs from a specialist in uk. So i gotta keep lookin  Are there any other websites other than this one with used rv.s for sale?

Re: help

Dred- I think you could get a much better deal on camper/vans by sending your friend in Florida the money and with him having cash money in hand (cash always talks louder than words).....Then I would look at the www.traderonline.com or even E-Bay. This way you can negotiate the deal in immediate cash for the seller, I've always found this works well with either private seller or dealership.
A) A private seller is probably tired of people coming around and calling just to kick the tires and walk away.
B) Dealerships need to move product to make any money.

Also you DO want to put the vehicle in your name from whomever you purchase it from. If your Florida friend puts it in his name he will be liable for Taxes on the purchase which in some counties in Florida is 6% and other counties is 6.5% of total purchase price.

Just my 2 cents!
