How do I open my Skamper?

I have an old Skamper, big one about 10 by 8 feet. Bought it as is, used and closed. At each corner there is an aluminum casting with a lock pin in it. Even when I remove the lock pins, I cannot open it up. Is there a crank or something? I cannot find anything on the outside of it except for the hinge arms. They don't appear to be spring loaded. When I try to manually lift the top it weighs a ton.
Any ideas anyone?

I do believe there is a crank - kind of a zig/zag bar with an end somewhat like a tire iron. I have a Fleetwood Niagara pop up, and the crank on it is located in the center of the spare tire.
