Need help with memphis

I am considering taking a job at the Memphis Airport and need some help. I would take my Pace Arrow and probably full time with it at a campground. My question is...Can someone recommend a place in or around Memphis that I could go to and not get taken on the price? I know nothing of the area and this is one of the deciding factors on me taking the job or not. Any help would be appreciated.

Hi,
If you are retired military or DOD retired there is a nice military camp ground at the Naval base at Memphis, it is off the main base. :) later Jim

Thank you Jim. I have never been in the military. I have put my time in the fire service. I appreciate the thought though.

I've only been to Memphis once, on Apple Computer's dime, and I stayed in the original Holiday Inn...

I agree with Dennis. Check Tunica, MS. Most of the Casinos there have Campgrounds.

Re: Need help with memphis

Well I have taken the job in Memphis. I have found what seems to be a good place by reviews and such now I am wondering if anyone on here has stayed here. It is Ez Daze Rv Park and is located in Southhaven MS. Here is the link to the place if anybody has stayed here please let me know how it was. http://www.ezdazervpark.info/index.html

looks nice, I will wait for some replies, if none come back to you, I will ask you how it is. We may head up that way soon

RE: Need help with memphis

I live just north of Memphis and the advice you've gotten so far is spot on (as usual, I've been reading here a while). I believe you can stay at the campground at Navy Lake without being in the military, but there may be a limit on how long you can stay. It's quite a nice area.

In Tunica there are two casinos with campgrounds and they're right across the street from one another. Hollywood Casinos campground is right next to the golf course and it's quite nice. Sam's Town is $5 cheaper and right across the street. We prefer Hollywood. The gambling is better there, too. If you're into that kind of thing. The campground that used to be at Grand Casino closed some years ago.

It can be a little noisy in the parking lots, which are right next to the RV park, on weekends. But we've never had any problems staying at either one.

Personally, I would not take a job in Memphis. We're planning on selling our place here and getting as far away as possible. Crime is bad, property taxes that are the highest in the state and for a large city the entertainment and nightlife is absolutely dismal. Recently the city management changed for the better (any change would be for the better) but it will be a long, long time before that makes any difference in the area. It's the worst place I've ever lived. Taxes are outrageous, schools are a war zone and there isn't a lot of nightlife outside Beale St., which you can experience in a weekend.

I'm also a volunteer firefighter/EMS. If you're taking a job with the airport fire department, that might be worthwhile. They are quite good. Well funded. But staying here long term...don't even think about it, especially if you have kids.

Re: Need help with memphis

Well dv thank you for the advice. I actually took a job with Pinnacle Airlines. I will be workin by the airport and stayin in Southaven MS. How is it down there?

Re: Need help with memphis

John Grisham lived there. I would be even less inclined to live in north MS, which is basically a suburb of Memphis. But Southhaven is definitely better than living in Shelby county. Do not move there. If you have to, stick to Collierville, Germantown or Bartlet.

I think Pinnacle operates as NWAirlink. Always thought it would be fun to work at the airport but the commute would be killer. Hate flying but am fascinated by aircraft. Strange combo.

Even Southaven is going to be significant culture shock from where you're coming from. I'm originally from Ohio and went to school at UofL. Don't get comfortable and apply for a transfer to MN as soon as you can.
