On my observation deck i used old high school alum bleacher material about 8 to 10 inches wide, you can run it front to back or across on alum angle with supports down to roor ribs. I bought it at the local metal salvage yard, 1.25 a pound. I capped the ends with thin alum angle, with stainless screws an bolts.
