Just purchased my 1st RV Forest River 5th wheel, Cardinal 38 feet, used (2002). Plan for it to be long term hook-up. I'm looking for a carport, either new or used.
Needs to protect from Pacific Northwest weather! Taking all input! Thanks

  1. Size and Clearance: Since your RV is a 38-foot 5th wheel, make sure the carport is large enough to comfortably accommodate both the length and height of your RV, including any roof-mounted accessories.
  2. Weather Resistance: Given the rainy and sometimes harsh weather of the Pacific Northwest, opt for a carport made from durable and weather-resistant materials like galvanized steel or aluminum. These materials are resistant to rust and can withstand moisture.
  3. Roof Design: Choose a carport with a sloped or peaked roof design. This allows rain, snow, and debris to easily slide off the roof, preventing accumulation that could potentially damage the carport.
  4. Anchoring and Stability: Ensure the carport comes with strong anchoring options to secure it against strong winds. Stability is crucial to prevent damage during storms.
  5. Customization: Look for carport options that can be customized to fit your specific RV dimensions and any additional features like slide-outs or awnings.
  6. Permits and Regulations: Check with your local authorities or homeowner's association about any permits or regulations that might apply to installing a carport on your property.
  7. Budget: Determine your budget for the carport, and explore options within that range. Remember that investing in a quality carport can provide long-term protection for your RV.
  8. Installation: Decide whether you want to install the carport yourself (if it's a DIY kit) or hire professionals. Proper installation ensures the carport's durability and stability.
  9. Warranty and Reputation: Choose a carport from a reputable manufacturer or supplier that offers a warranty. This provides peace of mind regarding the quality of the product.
  10. Maintenance: Regular maintenance, such as cleaning and occasional inspections, will help extend the lifespan of the carport.
  11. Community Feedback: Consider seeking advice from fellow RV owners in your area or on RV forums. They might have recommendations based on their experiences with protecting their vehicles from similar weather conditions.
  12. Local Dealers and Suppliers: Reach out to local RV dealerships or suppliers. They might have recommendations for carport providers that cater specifically to RV owners.
