Will a standard fifth wheel hitch that is currently in an 8 foot bed fit in a 6 foot bed.

I have a 3/4 2001 dodge diesel with a short bed. I have a standard Reese 5th wheel hitch in it but the fith wheel trailer has the extended pin on it

Yes, the hitch will fit, but that is not the question to be asking. Will the Trailer fit? is a better question, and the answer depends on whether the trailer has a pin extended far enough to work. Some standard hitches can be converted to 'sliding' hitches for not too much money, which can also compensate for the short bed.

Hi RaeDar, welcome to the forum, also you may need new frame mounts, but as posted the hitch will work but also as post check for the extended pin on the trailer or if one is available for the trailer. Good luck.
