Towing with a class III hitch

I currently own a hi-low and am looking into buying a bigger trailer. I own a weight distribution hitch and have a class III hitch on my half ton truck. My hi-low has a pretty hefty tounge weight of close to 700lbs. And weighs over the Class III rating, my question is, is the weight distrubution hitch making the weight capacity of a Class III hitch greater? I have been watching and asking people that may be at a gas station pulling a TT that is heavy, and then ask what Class hitch they have and they look at me like I am crazy, and say I dont know. So does anyone else have a half ton with a class III hitch? And how much weight are you pullin! :)

Re: Towing with a class III hitch

Most factory hitches are Class III, and are rated to 10,000lb. using a weight distributing hitch. If you don't use one, the rating is 5,000lb. Usually these ratings are labled on the hitch.
I am not saying your truck can tow that much, don't know what it is. SOME newer 1/2 ton trucks are rated to that, but not many.
