Water & Holding Tanks

[Maryle] We are now new owners of a &#039 95 Towlite and need your advice regarding the water and holding tanks when not using our travel trailer. We live in Florida so don&#039t need to winterize, but don&#039t know if it is wise to drain the water and if we should put chemicals in the tanks.
Thank you for your help,
Maryle

Water & Holding Tanks

[Lee Anderson] We have had a 25 foot travel trailer for many years, and when we store it we always drain the water tank. We flush out both the gray and black tanks, and drain them both. We make sure there is some water in the sink and tub traps, as well as some water in the top of the toilet. We have never had an odor problem, and our tank sensors have always worked.

[Julian Anderson] As you said, living in Florida you don&#039t need to winterize and the previous posts about draining the tanks are correct. It is recommended to sanitize the freshwater system once a year. Fill the fresh water tank, add 1/4 cup of Chlorox for every 15 gallons of water in the tank and let stand for 3 or 4 hours. Run some of this water through all the faucets, then drain the fresh water tank - fill again and drain once or twice to get rid of the Chlorox smell and taste.
