wheel bearings

I have always re-packed my fifth wheel bearing once a year. I pull my 12,000 pound trailer about 6,000 miles per year. I have done this for years but others say they re-pack every 2-3 years or 15-20,000 miles and have no problems. I would be interested in knowing what most of you do. Also a lot of my friends are using buddy bearings and just being real careful to not over pressure and get grease on the brakes. I use them on my trailers that do not have brakes but not do not otherwise. Any experience on this?

wheel bearings

Hi Potato Chip, I do mine when I replace the tires, unless I have to remove the hubs sooner. Have been doing this for 25 years and never had a problem, now if you should submerge the axles/bearing under water for any reason, then the sooner the better. I frimly belive that more damage is done by over removal then by under. :)
