Wind Deflector

Does anyone have experience with using a wind deflector when pulling a 5th wheel? Does it improve your gas mileage? Does it help to keep the bugs off of the front? I have been told that with the newer aerodynamic designs and fiberglass fronts that a wind deflector is not worth the money.

There is one on the market that fits in the stake holders of the truck and adjusts with wind pressure but the cost is about $500 and I am not sure if it would be worth it.

Any thoughts would be appreciated.

Re: Wind Deflector

It will help with the bugs, but won't do squat for gas mileage. If you like the look, go for it but don't expect to get your money back with gas savings.

Air deflectors don't work for gas milleage savings. Also, wind tunnel tests have shown removing a rear tailgate actually reduces fuel mileage.

Slow down for the MPG and just wipe the bugs off. Put the deflector money in your pocket. JMO
