    Hello allisonman,
I recently purchased a 2001 chevy 2500HD with a 8.1 vortec and a allison 1000 tranny with 85,000 miles. After putting on approx. 2000 miles on the truck, the seal started to leak. I took it to the local tranny shop and they told me the torque converter welds leaked allowing tranny fluid by which caused the seal to fail. They showed me a bulletin from the Automatic Transmission Rebuilders Assoc. stating that this has been occuring in these vehicles. They ordered a "(heavy duty)" torque converter from precision torque converters at my cost of $625 plus labor and replaced the seal. Got the truck back and it is still leaking some tranny fluid(not as bad). Have you seen this problem before?
