Water heater pilot won't stay lit when tank is warm

I have a 95 Mallard (not sure of the water heater brand). Everything works fine except when the tank is warm; the pilot will not stay lit unless I hold the control in the pilot position. As soon as I move to the "on" position, the pilot goes out. But if the tank is full of cold water, everything works fine. Any suggestions?

Hello and welcome to the forum.

I have run into this many times, most people will say the thermocouple, but it is the Thermostat, or gas control. The big aluminum valve that your controls are on. It will take something to get it out and replaced, but that will take care of it.
